Look humanity is scummy sometimes, but just ignore it. I have been cussed at quite a few times. Just forget about a strangers words on the internet. It stings at first for someone to cuss at you. But afterwords you realize. 1. You won fair and square. 2. They are salty. 3. You should forget about it.

I think in this insane time, that sort of language should not be common but it is.

I do not agree that racists should be banned from playing chess (or any other recreational activities for that matter).
I agree that racist should not be banned just because they are racist. As long as people play Chess and keep their philosophy to themselves then Hitler can play here for all I care. I think that when they spew their filth and hatred at a person, particularly a person of color THEN they should be kicked off the site. Is this unreasonable?
Yes, I think that is unreasonable, because it is a disproportionate punishment that helps nobody. As I said, if they are banned from chatting, they cannot be racist any longer, they will keep their philosophy to themselves and be silent as you requested.
Banning them from playing as well might even be counterproductive, because they might go elsewhere and actively be racist there. I much prefer them silently playing chess.

Yeah I was a victim to racism on lichess as well I lost as black and lichess said "White is Victorious!!"

When a user cheats, restrictions are placed on their ability to play but they are still allowed to send messages. So there is a precedent to restrict users from doing the thing that violates policy without any more restrictions. I think that's a fair policy. It protects the site from harm with the least amount of force. As unfortunate and offensive as some people may be, the admins are responsible for the quality and fair play of the Lichess site, not the moral compass of those who use it.
Yeah I get all of that I just think in cases where these racist idiots call someone out it becomes a different matter. Try calling someone that in your job and see how long you last.
You do not believe in consequences for ones actions. Having one's chat disabled for being racist *is* a consequence for an action, and it is quite proportionate. You believe in escalating consequences for ones actions. You're not even an "eye for an eye" guy, you gave an eye and are calling for his head.
