I sent a draw offer assuming he was afk. He timed out and the result was declared draw.
It's a feature, not a bug.

So, did your opponent leave the game or did they accept the draw offer? Can't tell from the game itself. If the former, I'm a bit surprised that the system declared it a draw.
In any case, if the opponent is afk they won't be able to accept a draw offer. This makes it look like lichess "accepts" it for them...not what I'd expect but good to know if true.
yes if opponent times out even if they have left while u offered draw lichess marks games as a DRAW its impossible to win unless your opponent self mates by playing a move in that case.
