How to Beat a Grandmaster in Chess

Well saying that to beat a GM you must think like a GM is kinda stupid. You won't be able to improve your chess suddenly if you change the way you think in one game, but you definitely should learn from them, what do they do different and why and apply it to your won chess.

But the 3rd point is the most important thing and it applies to beating every stronger player.

If someone is higher rated it basically means they are overall a better player - if you include all the chess skills (time/tilt managment, opening knowledge, middlegame and endgame, decision making, playing under pressure etc.), but it doesn't mean that they are better at every single one of theese skills. So to beat a stronger player you must play to your strengths and/or their weaknesses. And BY FAR the easiest way to do so is to play an opening you have experience in. But playing a mainline opening against a GM wont exploit their weakness. So the best chance you have to beat a GM is to play an off-beat opening where you have reasonably deep understanding of the position, at least deeper that your opponent.

Best example of playing to your strengths is Witty_Alien. He got prebably hundreds winning positions against opponents rated 3000+. Why? He creates chaos on the chessboard. He takes you to his world - his strength. And likely your weakness. And you have to do the same, take your opponent to your world, your favourite opening.

Honestly it's a very interesting topic I might try to write a blog post on it myself.
Okay so I just have to Focus like a GM, Think like a GM, Study like a GM.
Its easy to beat GMs online.
Its not so easy to beat them over the board.

I have 3 classical games OTB against 3 GMS and I made 3 draws.

I can post these games, sure :D

Sure, you are right.

But in the end it also doesn't matter, since winning in a Blitz game also isn't that simple :D
