The lack of ads is one of the essences of lichess but why not to accept donations?? There is no logical reason for that. I would donate by credit card as I don't have paypal account.

I don't recommend that lichess starts paying for anything that isn't necessary (like games against Grandmasters or popularity), but I think it's good to accept donations. You might not need them at the moment, but it's nice to have them so you're prepared for a time when you would've needed them.
Yes, donations is a good idea, I would donate a dollar or two (paypal). Lichess is a great site, love it.
