I was going to win but then I accidentally stalemated :(
Now I'm angry
Jk :D But I'm not that happy
Every beginner should know that position. The one with the king behind the pawn. It was actually mate in 3 with the move: Bishop d3+, just hope u won't make the same mistake again.
This is a classic zugzwang. Never push the pawn in situations like this. Get the King to a key square first.
Something like:
71. ... Bh3
72. Kh7 Kf7
73. Kh6 g8=Q
with mate to follow.
How about 71. ...Bd3+ or Ba2+, if 71. ...Bd3+ then 72. Ka2 Kc2 73. Ka3 b8 =Q and checkmate, or 71. ...Ba2+ 72. Kxa2 Kc2 73. Ka2 and b8= Q and both mate in 2 I think, but the latter has lesser chances of stalemate on mouseslip.
@KeithDenning @PranavBobbySekhar @PrimalPotatoMine What do you think?
BTW, 57... Rh1 wins the rook on h7.
Yeah....I was supposed to know that was stalemate *insert facepalm* but I had 2 minutes left on the clock. I know 2 minutes is a lot of time, but for a long time I only played unlimited chess. I should work on not totally freaking out when I have less time.
yea when the king is in opposition (unless you have a bishop covering the queening square) never push the pawn, good lesson though for you :)
I once did pretty much the same thing in a high school championship match. These things happen.
It's ZugZwang
