Every day when I log on I have this great man looking up at me. I'm reminded of his 60 memorable games and tell myself that "I consider myself to be a genius who happens to play chess". It's a powerful image and fits nicely with the lichess layout.

I feel Chess960 really embraces the beauty chess has to offer to the fullest.
This is what I use:

@alysiasmiles says i need to log in to view that picture.
images8.alphacoders.com/441/441962.jpgI use this one. It kinda sets the right mood for me.
Oh yes. That is quite magnificent. With the right board combination it could be perfect. I use the chrome extension stylish.
It's really a wonderful picture for sure! Easy on the eyes as well if you play in a darker room. :)
I certainly wish there were more options available for customizing the chessboard. Wouldn't need more themes necessarily but just more color options for the current ones. I use the one that's the second from the top in the right column which looks like some kind of linen and I really like the design but it's a shame it only comes in that one color.
If we had the current designs and then color sliders for both the light and dark squares, with some presets, that would be so awesome! And perhaps opacity sliders as well if you'd like to make it a hint transparent to really blend it in nicely to a great background. These would really allow for perfect customization. Should probably suggest it to the developers. :)
What I like most about it is that the board is one of the old cardboard ones that's numbered for checkers, like the boards I played on in middle school.
Mine is a looping gif from a game. Keeps me relaxed, especially with the Pentatonic sound theme.
