Will my experiment work?

I have decided from now until the 1st May I will not play 1 single chess game. Instead I will use the time I would usually spend playing doing tactics and reading books I have. I plan on doing 50 puzzles a day and completing: Logical chess move by move, Amateurs mind and Yasser's winning strategy and tactics books.

My thinking is. that by not playing any chess at all I will reset my thought process and really absorb all the basics that these books provide.

One time, I took a week off from playing, studying or doing anything related to chess. When I came back a week later, I was better.

So there's that.
Well, when I once went into a tournament after studying and not playing for days, I failed to capture a queen that was en prise and undefended. But maybe tactics will help you avoid that. Looking forward to the results of your experiment.
Good luck, man. For me, it's an addiction. I could never take a month long break.
Chess is something that you improve at gradually. "Intensive" training is worthless.

That said, i wish you luck.
I'm trying something similar myself, I'm trying out Horde chess for abit as a break from normal chess. I think It will be a way I could play chess without really playing chess and it might just refresh my thought process. Good luck with your experiment! Let us know how it goes, hopefully you will find it a success
Sorry to say but this does not usually work. You need to practice implementing what you have learned from studying. Having the knowledge does not nessesarily mean you will play well. You will also become rusty playing wise.
I know someone who did that for like 6 months, and it didn't help
I remember in a presentation Josh Waitzkin gave he said he took a month-long break from chess, and when he came back it helped him look at the game in a new perspective. Granted, this was a complete break from chess, and not just a break from playing.

My recommendation for you would be to still play, but completely cut out blitz and bullet games, and opt for games with time controls in the classical time range. If you also limit yourself to the amount of games you play per week, then when you do play, you'll be more likely to study what really went wrong if you lost instead of skimming over it.
