"marriage is a waste of time" -> well in Canada, what makes you "married" is the legal documentation
So whether you have an actual "marriage", if there's no certificate, you ain't married.
Actually, I find it more of a waste of money than anything else. I definitely won't be ripping out 10k (minimum) for a symbolic seremony ... Just sign the "terms and conditions" of the marriage (lol) and tada, saved at least 10 grand and still ended up with the same result.
