Record of reports

I tend to report several users, sometimes because they let the time run out instead of resigning in a tournament, sometimes because of insults or sometimes because I believe that a person might have used some computer assistance.

It would be useful to check if a person has already been reported. Also, it is of interest for the person who has reported to know if this action has brought some results or not.
I agree with the first feedback, even if it's just to "prove" that I'm not oversensitive.

As I block everyone that I report, I'm not too concerned about if there was punishment involved on a specific person. I think it would be nice to have monthly reports stating that so many people have been banned and maybe even the offenses--just to feel that the problem is being addressed.
When someone you reported gets banned, you receive a notification. If it was a cheater who you lost to, you also get a notification about rating refund.
As for the cheaters: I mostly report cases where I won the game, so the rating refund isn't too important for me.

(A lot of noobs do know how to use an engine app for their browsers, but they can't handle the time yet and know very little about chess as well)

But I play a lot of tournaments and so I have the pleasure to meet these persons again and again.
I would like to see something in between the warnings and actual bans. A slight inconvenience for causing other people inconvience would be fair. Eg. I encounter daily players that abort the game before the first move, even when both players are online and have the board window open. Because they've lost too many duels or something. If you do this, you should get maybe a 5 min ban from game seeks. I don't care if it's accidental or intentional, the inconvenience caused is what matters. Same with draining/disconnection issues. If you have a bad connection, it's not up to your opponent to bear the consequences but you.
Maybe this rant was ot but it's worth your time!
It is a terrible idea to display reports to the public. Someone can be reported but is entirely innocent (innocent until decided guilty), so knowing a record of accusations is not helpful.

The most it can do is lead to public shaming, a false sense that someone is guilty due to being reported previous (even worse if you display the number of times), and frankly has no impact on your enjoyment of this site and its services.

If someone is decided guilty, relevant actions will be taken, otherwise, they're innocent still and should be regarded as such, as with you or anyone else on this website.

If you have an issue with the lichess administration not doing stuff to your satisfaction or disgruntled with their actions, that is an issue with you and the administration, not the folks that are the targets of reports.

An accusation isn't a conviction, etc, and any display of that information could negatively impact the accused.

I agree with ioxod. Having report records public can easily be abused. It would only bring grief to everyone. If some immature moron decided to just report people because "it's funny" you can easily end up with tons of people branded as potential cheaters. Which can lead to other situations where the innocent might not be able to play any games because the other players might look at their profile and assume the worst.

It actually happened with Team Fortress 2 back in 2008-2009 where people who didn't use external exploits were given a cosmetic item dubbed the "Cheater's Lament". I've seen people get banned from private servers because they didn't have that hat in their inventory. Those mods assumed they cheated when in reality they could of just made a new account or they might of thrown it away. It didn't actually prove any real cheating like aim hacks.

The current reporting works fine. A human reads the report, takes a look into the data, and decides to move forward with action. Bans are not taken lightly because the mod knows that there is still a human behind the computer. Also the mod needs to decide if the report is legitimate or the reporting person is raging and wanting to get back at the accused.
This must be a misunderstanding: I am not interested in a public list, because this would mean to install a pillory. It would be okay just to have a personally accessible list. Like an outbox in your email system, for your eyes only.
@mistydoom You agree with ioxod after ThirdRook told there's a misunderstanding? (right above your comment)
