Thibault, listen.

@SavageAntarctican Well, you can check how much data is used playing a single game of chess too, it's also about 5.6kb transferred. Doesn't lichess have some ridiculous number of games going on at all times, like 120000 or something?
So since both players have to load up that game, that means that just loading up those games used up the same amount of data as that entire thread that was closed
The million pages thread was a microcosm of what the off-topic discussion has become over the past few weeks-- a waste of time and resources that prevented people from actually being able to use the forums in the way they were intended. I mean, take a look at the threads that have been posted in during the last couple of hours: 5 threads complaining about the termination of a quest to try and break the lichess website, 5 attempts to recreate the thread that got shut down for trying to break the website, and three threads designed for posting nonsense. Not only are these annoying, but they technically violate the lichess ToS (if I read the ToS correctly): there is a clause about how users are not allowed to abuse the infrastructure of the website, and another clause about how spamming is prohibited. I don't think the mods shut it down because they were being malicious, but rather because they were doing their job.

Thank you mods
If you guys want to hate on our AMAZING mods who keep this site thriving and keep the forums spam-free, then go right ahead. I will sign out if that is the case. We should thank them for moderating the forums 24/7, even if it means taking down a semi-popular forum.
Actually I think it's a good thing they were closed too, but I just didn't understand the data usage argument. The mods do a great job, I agree
@SlicingBishop2006
Agreed. It's gotten so bad, I'm considering becoming clousems, forum vigilante again.
Not meant as a dig at the mods, btw. Meant as a dig at spammers
@clousems

Don't don the mask boy, when you put it on, you... change. I thought you learned after Sri Lanka. I told you that you part ways from the Syndicate.
