Chess.com is copying Lichess

chess.com is so paranoid about losing members to lichess that any mention of another chess site in the forums gets deleted and the "offender" is muted by zealous mods.
@Wolfram_EP Perhaps your assertion is correct, but one cannot deny that lichess has basically made chess.com (and all other chess servers) obsolete; that other people do not realize this yet only means that they're not losing users NOW, not in the future!

I really tried long and hard to think of a reason to use chess.com, and the only reason I found was bughouse, but that, of course, is done way, way better on FICS. Other than that, I see absolutely zero reason to use chess.com over lichess. Chess videos are available all over the Internet, the Tactics Trainer is easily replaceable by lichess's or even other sites', the "lessons" are also available in various other formats and are very basic TBH (and as evidenced by the ratings there, you're not going to actually learn much), and the higher level competition isn't a concern until you're 2700+ (and even then, you can still get a big challenge on lichess).

chess.com is very popular with my friends, and I started out my first serious games there (In fact, I used to play like a chess match once every year with my dad and we used to use lichess, but I didn't really play chess back then because playing 1. d3 once every year isn't really chess :P), so I really felt sad to see just how badly they "let themselves go." The lag is horrible, they are very slow to process cheating reports, the interface overall is quite bad, and they basically NEVER listen to good ideas. Why the hell haven't they created Thief-like buttons for bughouse? It's almost been a YEAR.

The programming overall seems to be done at quite a low level, and that is just an objective statement - I mean no offense at all to the programmers there as I hope they're trying to do their best, but perhaps the team just doesn't mesh well together? In any case, lichess is so ahead of them that the insecurity is quite obvious. Have you ever noticed how chess24 sometimes gets mentioned, but lichess never does? On one of Danny's videos, it was actually the first time he mentioned lichess publicly (and even then he just quickly dismissed lichess as a bunch of commies...)...
@FischyVishy yeah the poor programming and lag is the reason why I don't really play there anymore. V3 has been out for a couple years now and it still feels like it's in early beta. Challenges don't even work half the time.
@Aquinas That's another thing! What the hell?! It's been out for so long and they basically have barely made any improvements!
> one cannot deny that lichess has basically made chess.com (and all other chess servers) obsolete
@FischyVishy I'd argue that's not true. At least, lichess is not cool enough today to call all other platforms obsolete. There is still no Swiss tournaments, there are a lot of bad puzzles where you need to calculate some line a lot and computer just answers with another, easy-to-answer lines, there is still no bughouse and @thibault stated that there will probably never be. [Now there is a working prototype on lichess fork (bughousetest.com), but I didn't see that lichess admins paid any attention to this.]

>> [thibault] Please don't ask me for bughouse. Lichess is a game for one board and two players. Now, someone should totally build a new bughouse website/app. It's impossible to integrate into lichess because it's radically unlike chess, structurally speaking.

I already find quite difficult to find a 2100+ opponent here for an LTC game like 15+10. This is of course not the structural problem, but only the consequence of the fact that lichess is young.
The masters opening book on lichess seems quite small. I cannot get a definite answer about what continuation is the best by statistic in most interesting cases, and engine is sometimes wrong and often cryptic. I dunno about chess.com opening book though, cause I never donated there.
"Practice" section is just awful, this is very far from Chess mentor that explaines you a lot, while here you see just engine evals. I'm not sure you can really make big progress with Chess mentor, though, but I still think lichess have to improve a lot in this direction.
I never noticed big lags on chess.com. Unfortunately, here I'm also lagging and some premoves can take several x0.1 sec. The killer feature of lichess for me is definitely a quick and comfortable possibility to analyze with Stockfish 8.
About cheaters: I'm quite suspicious about some bans here. I don't know at all how this anti-cheat system works but I have a good reason to think that one person not cheated and got banned here, and also not got any response when he asked about that via contact@lichess.org.
In the end, while all things above are fixable in the long prospective, I think Titled Tuesday or Blitz Battle with big prizes will never land on lichess. It doesn't have an appropriate business model for this.
Innerspace is a known troll on chess.com
He bullied this 16 year old kid called 2Q1C relentlessly until he quit the forums.

I think chess.com are copying lichess. I can't believe I was a premium member on there for months before finding out about this site.
And lichess recently copied chess.com's "focus mode" by implementing a "zen mode." This is what makes all of online chess better. Trust me, this is way better than the way online chess used to be. FICS and ICC just sat on their butts for about two decades not adding anything new or innovative.

Be happy.
@Wolfram_EP Why do you need Swiss tournaments? Who copied whom here? Arena > Swiss, obviously.

The TT there suffers from the same problems - like all other TTs...

There WILL be bughouse. That was Thibault's response back then.

2100+ opponent in long TCs? Where do people record their long TC videos, here or on chess.com/? A LOT of 2000+ players on chess.com are just blatant cheaters, and, as I said, with their processing of cheating reports, it'll take a long time for them to be outed as such.

Practice is in its infancy. It'll get better with time, unlike ChessMentor, which has been the same for years.

chess.com's interface is just so laggy. It's low level coding work - have you seen penguin playing there vs. here?

"About cheaters: I'm quite suspicious about some bans here. You can PM me his username, and I'm sure we can have a laugh about it.

"In the end, while all things above are fixable in the long prospective, I think Titled Tuesday or Blitz Battle with big prizes will never land on lichess. It doesn't have an appropriate business model for this." Ha! That's what you think...
@NeverBeenTimid... so you're a fanboy of the infamous 2Q1C ! LOL. The "16 year old" who has a lifetime ban. The creator of over 200 accounts and 1000+ nonsense threads at chess.com. It really was appalling how long they allowed his presence. Nowadays, daily he'll make a dozen accounts , all being nuked within minutes. The "poor, mistreated boy 2Q1C of chess.com". A legend
and to add to the earlier comment of mdinnerspace. chess.com is paranoid, they are practically forcing chesbrah to play only on chess.com they are sponsored by them but theyre streams and youtube videos with lichess has definently decreased. Eric has also mentioned many times that chess.com is very laggy.
