People who refuse to resign

Imagine 2 people are playing. Player one is up 2minor pieces. Then, player 1 blunders a queen. Boom, now player 2 is winning and player 1 is losing. If lichess auto resigned, then player 2 never would have been at an advantage.
Edit: stalling against the timer will result in a temporary ban, lichess already took action on that.

Then let's be reasonable and wait until they move and/or resign :)
Might I suggest doing other things while you wait for them to move? Maybe reading the news or working on homework or doing something else might be helpful! I don't play much rapid or classical chess on Lichess, but when I was in a chess club, I remember the dilemmas you talk about and can relate. We just need to be patient and wait for them to move/resign. Plus, all that extra time they use makes the clock tick down and gives you time to think about your next move :)
The arrogance of these clowns who think they’re entitled to insist that their opponents should resign is astounding. Rule no 1. Nobody has to resign. Rule no 2. Read rule no 1.
Well then we're just not going to play. /shrug

The game will continue to be totally irrelevant in America.

It's playing on in a losing position, as if winning would even mean anything anyway, that is arrogant. It's a board game. No reason to waste people's time and make it terribly unpopular.
@DigitalDestruction what is the main goal of chess?
Is there a rule that says the opponent MUST resign in a „lost“ position in the FIDE/USCF rules?

If you are so sure that you are winning, than win the game.

The game is not over till it is over.
@magicsacrifblunder Again: Fine, but the overwhelming majority of us will continue to not play due to this. To a normal, reasonable person it's infuriating to watch someone be that stubborn.
According to the rules, they don't have to resign. However, I do agree that people who refuse to resign in clearly lost positions probably suffer from the psychological bias of loss aversion. This kind of people may also refuse to sell when they are clearly losing in the stock market, potentially leading to more losses.

Seems like an indefensible blanket statement to me...
