is chess about skill or study?

@Dario19503 you said truth chess is such a waste of time(you must be ready to sacrifice what has to be sacrificed in order to achieve that. That is childhood, youth, lots of money and thousands of hours you could've spend with friends, family. or something else.) if these are your original lines then you are a very good thinker.

#22 You can say chess is a waste of time, but then you can say the same about art: some artists make stuff nobody likes, or about science: some scientists study subjects nobody cares about...
id rather waste my time with this than with anything else at the moment... and it doesn't cost me much maybe like 100 bucks every few years depending if i want a book or not... its cheaper and more satisfying than a relationship... I am the sum of my experiences... I am Jacks broken heart
@tpr I respect your opinion, but I wouldn't compare chess to either art or science. Art is mainly about self-expression, if an artist manages to do that, it doesn't matter who likes the artwork and who doesn't, it's subjective anyway. The goal of science is generating new knowledge, you can't ever call that wasting time, even though you might not be able to see what's the immediate application of a specific study results.
I'm not arguing whether chess is a waste of time or not. Like I said in my earlier post, everyone needs to decide on their own how much time they want to dedicate to chess. All I'm saying is that chess is just a game. For some, it may be a profession. But still, it's very different from both science and art.
