I just noticed that lichess servers are now running stockfish 9+ to perform games analysis. What are the main improvements compared to its predecessor?

@nikitasa The post is referring to the *version* of Stockfish, which is version 9. The Stockfish levels when playing the AI are not related to the version of Stockfish we are running.
What does the + in the name mean? I noticed this with local Stockfish (used to be Stockish 8+, now 9+), why is it not just 8 (now 9)?

I'm not certain, but I believe the + refers to the lichess additions and modifications (game variants n' stuff).

Stockfish 9 is approximately +55 ELO in self play according to Sp-cc.
