Why russian flag players are allowed?

If you are anti-war in Russia, you probably don't wear the Russian flag on lichess.

Recently I got greeted with a pro-war "Z" from a Russian player. I made the effort to talk to them, and was showered with propaganda how the west are a bunch of filthy liars that smuggles nuclear bombs into Russia to destroy Russia and the violence against Ukraine is necessary.

If you lived in Hitler Germany and didn't support the Nazis, you wouldn't have run around and show off the swastika. Maybe slightly far-fetched, but I see it similar with the Russian flag today.

I strongly agree! This happened to me too very frequently during the past months.

If the russians are being isolated at international level for terrorist acts and genocide, why is Lichess not doing the same? I don't want play with them. The citizens of each country are responsible for their country. Please administrators, think about this.

the citizens are NOT responsible for the war, the leaders are. the people don't want war. you can't blame it on the Russian people. Blame the Russian leaders.

hope you reported ...
Fortunately, lichess offers players from Russia and Belarus the possibility to select the opposition flag in their profile (Russia: white-blue-white, Belarus: white-red-white). Some players use this service with great gratitude (like me) and others probably don't know about this alternative. Of course, there are also users who consciously, out of conviction and with great pride show official flags in their profiles.
But at lichess you can choose any flag for your profile, and nobody knows if that is really the real nationality. For example, there were a lot of Ukrainian flags here after Putin bombed Ukraine. This was probably mainly out of solidarity.

Since the flag in the profiles does not necessarily have to reflect the truth, my radical suggestion to lichess is to completely do without flags! Everyone would be the same and you would meet at eye level, which is actually lichess philosophy. There would be no more reservations and no more paranoia; each user would simply play against another human.

What you said is so wrong.

The Russian people are not responsible for the war, and just because they so choose to have their Lichess profile have a Russian flag on it doesn't just guarantee that they support the war. As long as Russia is a country will Lichess allow the flag to remain.
What kind of idiot thinks a person should be victimised just because they are born with a nationality?

Keep politics out of sport.
