Star Wars I (The Phantom Menace) is quite light compared to the following ones, it is more comical and less violent, while having a lively pace.
Kin Dza Dza is more a comic sci-fi film, it plays more on the card of surrealism and absurdity, and in terms of action, it's poor, and if you don't understand the context of the film, you can quickly get bored. But it's worth watching.
Otherwise, in each genre, i would recommend
Blade Runner 1982, Alien and Aliens, Matrix, Mad Max in sci-fi
In action, I'm tempted to put some warfilms like A Bridge to Far or They Fought for their country, but I should also mention Dirty Dozen. And gangster films like The Godfather, Leon, Nikita...
About comedy, I'm more into French comedies of 1950-1990, all the films with Louis De Funès, the last films of Jean Gabin or Fernandel... More close to us, i'll choose the film Les Visiteurs (Jean Reno play the main character) or Astérix et Obélix : Mission Cléopâtre

Sci-fi movies: "Enemy Mine," "Oblivion," (with Tom Cruise), The 6 original Star Wars films, "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets".
Action movies: "Die Hard" and "Live Free or Die Hard" (both with Bruce Willis), "Taken" (with Liam Neeson), "The Equalizer" (with Denzel Washington), "First Blood" (one of the Rambo movies, with Sylvester Stallone), "Jeremiah Johnson" (with Robert Redford).
Comedy movies: "Lillies of the Field."
I don't watch many comedies, so I can't name any more good ones off the top of my head.
There are more movies I could name, but some of them were already mentioned. Also, you should watch some drama films. I could name some great, heartfelt films.

Drama movies: "Conrack" (With Jon Voight), "To Sir, With Love" (with Sidney Poitier) (those first two are similar but different, and both really good), "The Revenant" (with Leonardo DiCaprio), "Rain Man" (with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman), "The Color of Money" (with Tom Cruise and Paul Newman. I just like this one. It's not great morals-wise), "Cool Hand Luke" (with Paul Newman. Same reason as the above title), "Rescue Dawn" (with Christian Bale and Steve Zahn), "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Original Movie" (with Elias Koteas and Judith Hoag).
Oh, and I thought of more movies in the other genres!
Action: "The 13th Warrior" (with Antionio Banderas. It's pretty bloody, but good), "The Book of Eli" (with Denzel Washington and multiple others), All of the 3 original Terminator movies, and maybe some of the modern ones.
Comedy: "A Knight's Tale" (with Heath Ledger), "Real Genius" (with Val Kilmer), "My Cousin Vinny" (with Joe Pesci and others).
Sci-fi: "Inception" (with Leonardo DiCaprio).

Rogue One is still a marvel in the Star Wars universe, I don't know if Op is mature enough to watch it, because there are a lot of "realistic" urban war scenes, but it's frankly a masterpiece. I should also have added Inglorious Basterds and Pulp fiction in the action category, and I can only recommend all of Tarantino's films, with this tragi-comic and deliberately crude side, but again, these are films which are not watchable at a very young age

Well crap, how young is he? I don't know that I should have listed some of those that I chose now. I feel like I need to take a lot of them out, actually.
Also yes, Rogue One was pretty good, I saw it when it came out. The other three new ones are shit, though. I'm so mad about how they turned out.
