If someone joins the team, can they not pause out of that tournament. If nobody else joined and if it is possible to press pause, then should that not end the tournament. If nobody is in the standings listings list, then I think the tournament should end. It will have existed, but will end sooner than later.
So it does end ....
The tournament may have been canceled if all players left before it started.
