feature request: reclassify 0+1 as ultrabullet

2+1 is bullet as much as 7+1 is blitz. it's a bit awkward but the lines have to be drawn somewhere..

so, why not move the ultrabullet line? i wouldn't be greatly opposed to it but 15 seconds is considerably crazier than 30 and this seems fine to me.
@Rise
Good. I think You got what I was saying :)

Just seems like with such a wide variation on all the other time variants that it cant be that out of the question for ultra to have a small range as well.
Sigh... would having time controls faster than 15 seconds make you happy?
#23 It would certainly make French players happy to know that they could all now get 2500 ratings.
@Toadofsky
Ikno right?
Heaven forbid people be having a civil discussion about a suggestion to the site in such a place as this.
I mean its the Lichess Feedback sub-forum
What were we ever thinking.

Lol, all in good fun; but seriously though:
we aren't crying or complaining. No one needs to be made happy; just talking about the pros and cons of why this would or would not be a good idea.
@breakreign Sorry... I do appreciate the civil nature of this particular discussion (as opposed to many others in this same forum).

It's just... resources are limited and even getting staff to agree on a change can be challenging. (Not that Lichess is a democracy, but staff do attempt to get along.) As a chess expert I aggressively & respectfully lobby for changes to help players better learn and enjoy the game (most recently, the live broadcast of the computer crazyhouse world championship). I've argued for wildly unpopular, simple suggestions like "zero-increment rapid & classical games should be casual only." I've (weakly) argued for near-impossible suggestions like "replace the leaderboards with any kind of ladder/challenge-based system" and am happy to see that we have shield arenas. I'm currently discussing/modeling an Atomic rating enhancement based on a careful reading of Glickman's paper (since White has a large opening advantage in Atomic). But enough about me... I'm just saying Lichess is always improving & always listening to suggestions, although we're already 25 posts into this topic and are arguing about "does it make sense" while at the same time arguing about what "it" is:
a) Expand Ultrabullet to include 0.5+0 (and maybe other TCs?)
b) Create a new rating category 0.5+0 (maybe including other TCs?)
c) Some combination of a/b and creating new increment-based rating categories?

... and no plan for how to transition existing ratings to the new system, what would happen with existing trophies, what effects it would have on leaderboards, tournaments, the opening explorer, and the main lobby seek buttons... the main thing being repeatedly discussed is "0.5+0 is different than 2+1" which I think people understand; 3+0 isn't the same thing as 7+1 either, or 8+0 the same as 24+1.

It's cool that we can have a discussion but I can imagine waves of negative user feedback about "fairness" & leaderboards & U1500/U1700 tournaments & other rating-based things were any of the above suggestions implemented... just look at how people already argue about variant leaderboards. Again, I appreciate the civil nature of this discussion (so far) but I've seen so many other topics in this same Feedback forum become, "When are we going to get [insert feature here]?" and I'd like a chance at an actual cost/benefit analysis discussion on this topic before that happens to this topic as well.
Idea: for time controls close to the border, use weighted averages of the ratings. Don't recalculate any past ratings, just implement it going forward.

1+0 (or perhaps 1+5.0) is pure bullet. 2+1 is at least two thirds blitz. 0.5+0 is half ultrabullet. 0+1 is...I still don't think it's at all like ultrabullet. I feel the increment should weigh more at short time controls.
I think that ultrabullet, hyperbullet and bullet shoud have 3 separate sets of ratings, because much more people play hyperbullet than ultrabullet, so it makes sense to give hyperbullet players a separate rating. By the way, I think that the time control limits should remain the same.
0+1 is very slow from my experience...arguably slower than 1+0 even. I like ultra being unique as 15 sec. Theres also a movement for 1/8+0 that I think would count as ultra.
