Queens gambit netflix series?

I just hope it's not yet again "males are evil, women are oppressed" moral of the story in there. I'll give it a try.
Obviously, this series fits into the typical Netflix woke feminist agenda.

There's never been a female chess prodigy like Beth IRL - the Polgar sisters were groomed to be masters by their dad even before they were conceived - as a successful science experiment.

That said - the series is very well done and well written. the late 1950s look and feel is expertly captured.

I like the way the humiliated older boys always offer Beth a draw right before they tip over their king. I mean - really now - she is smart enough to destroy them over the board, but she is going to take a draw with a winning advantage ?

Maybe they thought they could intimidate her ? Not Beth ! You go girl !
It's currently 8.9 rated at imdb, and people love it. It's a true masterpiece.
I watched three episodes last night. It's ok. I little bit unrealistic (she wins a tournament without playing a single game for like five years?), but ok. It's a fiction after all.
in trailed the protagonist in entering competition and they do you have a clock? Is that common in USA to bring your own gear to tournaments?
@petri999 in many local tournaments one should bring his own clock and chess set. It's common here in Croatia too. Not many organizers are rich enough to own 50 clocks and chess sets.
Croatia is not quite as welthy as USA so that is understandable. But big tournaments is usa is a another thing. In Finland clubs tend to own amount stuff they need for tournaments or if they are located in in greater Helsinki area they can rent the gear.
I am watching it. I think it is the best chess related movie/series ever made. The moves played on board are correct, as well as the name of the openings, good books and the personal struggle in otb.

Maybe we can expect an increase in chess interest by parents/girls and by books like Modern Chess Openings and Capablanca's My Chess Carreer.
