"Warning. Letting time run out instead of resigning will result in a temporary ban."

this new feature is not good. i hope lichess reconsider removing it
Or at least change the message to "new rule - you must make a move every n seconds" where n is a number derived from the duration of the game, seconds remaining and a further calculation probably something involving the lunar cycle.
It's not a new rule. If you've been here a while without ever getting banned for it, you have nothing to worry about.
These are the same notes which have been made „secretely“ in former times.
When I was new to Lichess, a similar thing happened to me: I played a very long time control, and got a winning position. Then my opponent did not move for a while so I premoved a pawn and went doing something else. When I came back, he still didn't have made a move, but my device had put itself in sleep mode, Lichess had interpreted that as me leaving the game, and my opponent had claimed victory.

More recently, in 10+0 my browser shut down at move 4, and just the time to me to open it again and go back to the game, my opponent had claimed victory.

This is super annoying, especially considering that it does not prevent sore losers to let their time run.
Well the other side of that is, when someone is clearly letting the clock run. I just resigned a game and I'm the one who got a warning "losing on purpose will result in a temporary ban". Now I have no choice but stare at the screen for minutes on end unit the clock runs out. I wish people would just resign already.
It's b******t, no denying that. The whole idea, you should have resign instead of timeout. Where in the world (and by world I mean real tournaments) did you see that? Nowhere.

And Why should I? I played some games, where I timedout. And so what. I really went out of time. Yes, I could resigned in last seconds, but why? Resigning is admiting, I screwed up so bad, I resign. I didn't screwed up, I just ran of time, let it happen a let it be noted correctly "lost, because went out of time" not absolute nonsense "lost, because resigned".

Same thing is for losing on purpose. How do you know, it's the case? How do you know I didn't have to leave computer for some serious reason and didn't want to let opponent waiting for nothing?

All this features all b******t
Up to now, I feel Lichess has got pretty much everything right. But I don't like these warnings at all. People should be allowed to play who they like, and lose how they like. If there is strong evidence that a player is abusing the system, then they should be warned privately in my opinion.
I think it's a good attempt by Lichess to limit a common irritating behavior.
I think this warning message is definitely an important step into the right direction. I totally support bans for bad sportsmanship, just like in other sports as well, where players will be removed from the game for bad behavior. Maybe there are a few improvements to make as some other people already pointed out but there is absolutely no reason to completely remove this (as some people demanded).
