I was reading this post about never resigning and...

"never resigning" means you don't resign even when an obvious checkmate in a few movies is coming. That's just dumb IMHO. Nobody enjoys being checkmated, why voluntary going through that pain?

Sometimes I don't resign even when I'm a queen down. I keep playing when there is still material on the board and I see ways to pose problems to my opponent. Basically when I'm lost but I still have the most fun position.

Sometimes I don't resign because I don't see any obvious way for my opponent to win even if he has an overwhelming attack and I'm curious to see what he will do.

But "never resigning" is dumb. Like in a pawn and Kings ending when you can't catch a passed pawn. Who would just shuffle around and hope the opponent will fail to checkmate you after promotion? I don't see the point.
"...even when an obvious checkmate in a few movies is coming." I once played an OTB 2h game against a much stronger opponent, and got a nice attack - so i went into tank mode to find the best moves. As soon as i put my hands on my head, he just resigned, becomes he saw an "obvious checkmate" in 4 - it wasn't obvious to me, and i maybe never would have found it
@grondilu

A lot of beginners are taught (and rightfully so!) to not resign, no matter how much material they're down, because when both player's ratings are <1200, stalemate, even up a queen, is very likely, especially in blitz games. (They play like its a blitz game, even in classical though...) Then they get used to not resigning, and that carries on even to when they reach 1200+.

I also don't like resigning, even in rapid games. I've had a a few blitz games where the computer said over +5 for my opponent, I didn't resign, and I won.

The point I'm trying to get across is, "Never Resign!" is good advice for beginners, which, the guy in question is; he was rated 800. And that is why he didn't resign

Cool story. That makes me feel like playing OTB games. Just to have that kind of story to tell.
