There have been many people asking in the past to make the marathon a bullet format and they have agreed, its 2+1 because they still want to keep with the slightly longer time control.
If you look at the previous marathon tournaments all the top players berserk almost half their games. It will be interesting to see how the podium looks with bullet rating up there.
PS personally I want to see a .5+0 time control for the tournament if only because I am like a 1900 there not the 1700 like in 1+0

I don't like 2+1, it's almost not possible to berserk and moreover it's closer to blitz than to bullet. I would have preferred 2+0 or 1+0.
