I think those conflicts have proven that insurgency, guerilla tactics and being able to blend in to civilian populations at will is the holy trinity of irregular warfare. Thats for sure. America was just the most recent victim.

Guerilla warfare is nearly impossible to beat in the long run if there are any allies and porous borders nearby. None of these conflicts took place in vacuums either... Not when the US was in afgan and not when the USSR was.
Take for instance that 320,000 Chinese soliders that fought in vietnam... a MASSIVE factor in the war. And yet I think facts like these are casually ignored when considering a conflict as a whole - because people love david/goliath stories.
But we all know if there were 300,000 US soldiers in Ukraine it would be the front page focal point of the entire conflict.

Ukraine has no mpre strategic importance for Russia than Afghanistan did.
NATO has jad a huge border with Russia for 20 years. With actually important stuff on ot like St Petersburg, the port on Kola or mayve Kaliningrad if we're pushing it.
There's nothing on the border to Ukraine ... just small cities nobody cares about like Kursk.
