Is it ever possible for human to calculate mate in 45?

I don't imagine it's possible for a human to be able to say "there is definitely a mate in 45 here", however they might be able to say "it's a winning position with mate likely at some point."
Exactly what @mcoombes314 said is correct.

The only exception are set-up endgames where certain triangulation tactics would need tons of moves and the idea is easy to understand. In that case the brain calculates in laps or paths and not in individual moves anymore.
thx for sharing the position, i didnt even know such a long forced mate is possible

€dit: it says M14 and not M45 now (ive seen it too when i opened the link first. guess someone let SF run a bit deeper and it found a shorter line

€€:

wow this position is awkward it told me at depth 33 from cloud its M14, then when i let it run at depth 60 it was still M16 but now its 100+ and says M7. crazy that it needs to calculate so deep with so little pieces (most with low range) and finds so many different lines.

its a nice puzzle btw finding the M7! dont spoil it with analysis if you think you can do it.

looks like human of a certain strength might be better than a computer in this position.

I dont think so
Calculating mate in 45 is quite tought
The point that jt has many variations can take a long time if it is forced it is easy

Remeber me

OK you say you don't think it work, But what happened if you use 2 hour time to think about it.

That sometime will work.
And I have say 11%work 89% not work
Humans don't really need to. If you see the position is a win, you don't have to calculate it down to mate (until you actually get there).

But yes, you can actually look ahead for hundreds of moves...in one of those composed positions involving the ongoing repetition of a series of moves (the famed Mate In 292 being one of those, if I'm remembering right).
