Best Defense to the Scotch Gambit Trap?

Hello many players play the Scotch Opening Trap. For those who don't know, the moves are 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Bc4. Here there are all sorts of traps White can play. I usually defend them with weak moves like 4... Nf6 or d6 or sometimes worse 4... h6. However, in all these games, I end up losing, in most cases, due to a weak position. Can someone suggest a strong defense? Thank you!

PS: This is the FEN if you need it:
r1bqkbnr/pppp1ppp/2n5/8/2BpP3/5N2/PPP2PPP/RNBQK2R b KQkq - 1 4
4...h6 is weak: loses a tempo and weakens the king's side
4...d6 is passive: blocks the diagonal of Bf8
4...Nf6 is the strongest move: develops the knight
Could you at least show the refutation of Nf6? I'm dying to see it and only then I'll get to the suggestions.

edit: ah, tpr never sleeps, also, d5 > Ne4 I'd say
Like, 5...d5 6.Bb5 Ne4 7.N:d4 Bd7 8.B:c6 b:c6 9.0-0 Bc5 is just fine.

Or 5. 0-0 N:e4, a long equal theoretical line.
You should study
1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. d4 exd4
4. Bc4 Nf6
5. e5 d5
6. Bb5 Ne4
7. Nxd4 Bc5!
This is the starting position where the theory begins, I played this position many many times with a friend on ICC and we both explored it extensively...
If 6. exf6 then dxc4 and you must play Qd5 at some point to counter Qh5 and things get very sharp
@DontGoToHeaven Want to explain your downvote to @Parahumanoid's post, please? You made a valid point with your posts above but also I use Parahumanoid's lines in my games and the video I posted also mentions it.
