Shameless hope chess

See the hope-chess black knight fork on e3 ? I could not stop playing for that. tss, tss. (One day Lichess will also have HopeChess ratings ?).
You mean you tried to simplify the position with a knight trade, but your opponent happened to hang his rook instead? Don't listen to Stockfish, 41...g3 can be reasonably argued to be the best move in that position from a human perspective.
I don't consider what you did here to be "hope chess". You start off up a bishop, and a pawn.

It's only truly "hope chess" when you are already in an easily winning position.

Hope chess is playing for some cheap tricks that only a patzer would fall in to when the moves you make are not ideal.

The fishing hook trap I show here is a good example of hope chess.

Also hope chess is for when you are say in a equal or slightly a little worse position down a bit, probably going to lose... So you maybe play that bad move knowing that if they do not play correctly the following move it equalizes for you or gives you a better position.

To play hope chess you must be playing sub par moves that have ways to win if not defended properly.

The best human player at "hope chess" was Tal. He played a whole lot of unsound sacs... Proving they were unsound though was very difficult for humans, and many wind up slipping up, and that was that.

I was using the term "hope chess" after I read a blog article by NM Dan Heisman about it, many months ago.
It seems that, after searching on the Internet now, the definition of "hope chess" is not so clearly defined.
Some pointers :

""HOPE" Chess - This is NOT when you make a move and hope
your opponent doesn't see your threat. Instead, Hope chess is when
you make a move and don't look at what your opponent might
threaten on his next move, and whether you can meet that threat on
your next move. Instead, you just wait until next move and see
what he does, and then hope you can meet any threats. In my first 3
tournaments I played Hope chess and never won more than 1 game
in any of the three. The speed at which you can play Hope chess
also explains why I usually took only about half an hour for each
game in these tournaments, even though the time control was 50
moves in 2 hours. Most high school level players play hope chess,
but almost always lose when they run into a serious player who
plays "Real Chess.""

IM Jeremy Silman :
www.chess.com/article/view/how-to-improve-your-calculation
"Don’t play “hope chess.” This is when you hope your attack or calculations are going to get the job done, but you don’t factor in your opponent’s possibilities."
