Is there a variation in English (white side) for castling Queen side that is playable for a 1200? I look for those developments in my games but have not been able to adequately protect the queen and mobilize her development. Thank you.
I really wouldn't focus on opening theory, I don't know any and I'm sitting at 1600, its more about knowing principals + calculation.
maybe you could make it work.
the downside is if you play 1.c4 you open up the b1-h7 diagonal and your king wants to be on b1/c1 square, also the C file could open if your opponent can plays d5/b5 sometime.

Many posters say do not emphasize openings as a low player. However a familiarity with opening principles and proven variations often gets me to a playable middlegame.

Your not supposed to castle q side in the english,other than when the queens are off the board to get your rook into the game. Meaning the cfile is open in the english which leaves your king wide open .
