Use of Stockfish mid-match in the CWC

Hi everyone, great to see the interest in this event has expanded since last year!

My two cents, which is fairly simple and may not be as well considered as other responses here.

This is an event celebrated and played between humans, so it shouldn't really involve engines. In my view, a 10-game match with blitz time controls is one match where two humans are in a contest on their own. It's not really 10 matches. Outside of this, anything goes in terms of how you like to learn the game or prepare for a match.

Sure, there's sometimes the need for a break for the likes of bathroom, emergencies and disconnections. If one player is taking such a break, you can't really enforce what the other player is doing in that time. My message here is more about the spirit of how we should be competing. This event presents many great opportunities to see human talent vs human talent and the thought of interference from engines shouldn't be top of mind.

Cheers,
Jann
Again, I side with lovlas, but I'm starting to think 10 minutes is too excessive myself...I'll reduce it to 5.

Thanks for dropping by @JannLee
I really agree with @Jannlee and his post. :)

We all love to see players relying on their instinct ,
no matter how the objective evaluation might be !
I couldn't agree more with JannLee (although honestly every option is fine with me), we all would prefer some Brain v Brain action far more than the Stockfish v Stockfish one...
The answer is in the question. We already know that the future of crazy house is 960. It eliminates the opening (There already is no endgame) very few draws, and has a fresh position and tactics from move one!!, and is even more in line with the nature and spirit of crazyhouse than classic chess, (classic chess960 can have some annoying cramped openings.) Just because this game evolved from bughouse, which makes sense to start such an already difficult game with classic opening, let this final metamorphosis take place. Why not agree the best variation should be made and played and leave this sharp opening theory memorization nonsense behind, while benefiting the game itself as well. Try preparing with a random board, good luck.
