Guys, it's worth taking part in one of those tournaments:

www.lichess4545.com/team4545/ - similar, but with 45+45 time control and as a team member (or an alternate)

Do wives and families get a say in this? Chess can be antisocial at the best of times, but to be shut away in a darkened room for six hours.

the shield tourney classical had around 2500 participants. 250 an hour. rapid shield around 2000 250 an hour so both have around the same popularity.

Recently concluded Yearly Classical / Turtle tournament has 3373 players, playing 6349 games! This clearly shows the appetite users have for slow games. Needless to say about the quality of games, way better than blitz / rapid.
