repeated colors against same opponent

it is incredibly common, more common than not, that i will have 2-4 games against someone from the general pool, often over a period of multiple months, and the color choice will be the same for all of the games.

i would expect that colors would alternate, even in the random pool. but not only do they not strictly alternate, they seem to strictly stay the same to the point that it cannot possibly be the desired outcome.

What is the meaning of the same colours with opponent @orangeshirts?
Obviously Lichess cannot guarantee alternating colors per general pool and per general player BOTH.
If you just had a game as white from the general pool, then you got paired with john who you last time played as black what can Lichess do, make you both black and white in the same game against john??
The chance of this happening once so you get the same color twice is not small it's 50%. So getting the same color three times would be 25% and 4 times 12.5 %
When this does happen even though it's that infrequent you really notice it and remember it and forget the vast majority of pairings where this didnt' happen. It's just simple probability.
