The sound of silence

I wonder how many people are out there with excellent voices who are afraid to sing in public.

I suffered through that phase ( not that I have an excellent voice or anything like that) .
Finally though I just relaxed, after many years of playing guitar and singing songs to myself
I finally realized hey,I'm not playing for them,I'm playing for me and things got a lot easier after that (you know adulation vs. self satisfaction, well that wasn't too bad, lol).
You realize of course I'm not talking the Met here, just sitting in a park playing and singing and hoping someone comes by to jam.

A corralary of this is the whole concept of shyness. I suffered though that for a long time .
I do think one common characteristic of the shy is that they assign too much importance to the trivial, being hurt by the inconsequential and blaming themselves for the failings of others.
Sometimes shy kids are too smart for their own good and they dwell upon that which really doesn't matter.
Well anyways just a couple of thoughts on shyness in general.

If you are shy, don't worry, you'll outgrow it and probably outshine them all.

You are a good person
I hear the right notes in my mind, but somewhere between my brain and my mouth, something goes terribly wrong. What's that expression? Can't carry a tune in a bucket? That's me, unfortunately. :-)

So then ya know
You just sell buckets
Many routes to success
But only one
To
Self-actualization.

Really though I'm speaking
Of the trials and tribulations
Of the shy.

You know how it is
You try to help those
Who are hurting.
I love being far enough out in the country that all you can hear is breeze and birds. It's sublime.
