New version doesn't draw the board correctly in Safari

Sorry to break a bubble here, but Safari is JUNK. It solidly competes with the old days IE6, which was a nightmare for web developers. It only exists because it's the default browser on Apple devices (just like IE was on Windows machines).

My advice: Save yourself the aggravation and use a proper browser (Chrome, Firefox)!
At least on Apple there's an easy fix to this recent change by coopted lichess to get people to upgrade. None exists for XP.
XP is ancient. I completely and totally support the Lichess developers' decision to not bother with it anymore for v2.
The upgrade was cleverly and secretly designed to be incompatible with XP, so your assumption about the developers not worrying about it is totally wrong.
XP and Vista machines as well as iPad3s etc remain functional and in a world where waste is destroying the planet old system users should be applauded not ostracised by programmers.

Old browser users supposedly only account for 0.2% of all users which coincidentally happens to be the same % of the UK electorate that will be deciding who the next prime minster will be. I have no idea what the point I am making is but still cross that I now have to use my laptop to play Lichess. Yes there are millions of people who have mobiles but how many actually want to play chess on a small screen.

As I have said in a previous post the manufacturers and system providers only make old machines technologically obsolescent it is the software programmers which make our machines functionally obsolescent and they should think twice before driving even a small number of users away.

PS please do not tell me it is not 'safe' to use old browsers unless you actually know how and what I am using my machines for.
The source code is public so it's impossible to keep anything a secret. I doubt the developers considered XP at all. I suspect they looked at the current state of browser technology and went with whatever they needed that was supported by all major recent browsers (their estimates are that 2% of users will have to get new browsers to use lichess v2). I don't doubt that anyone who still uses xp will have all sorts of crazy theories about why it's not supported forever. Perhaps the lichess developers are being paid by microsoft to make it incompatible with old versions of windows so that people are forced to pay for expensive upgrades?
@jasontaylor7 -- Yeah, it was an absolute conspiracy. The code was written "cleverly and secretly"... open source. Very secret indeed... :D
