Buying a laptop soon

I can spend about $300 and I'll probably pick one up at Walmart.
Any recommendations or warnings ( I know someones going to say don't buy it at Walmart).
you won't find a good laptop for less than $300. Mine cost about 600 bucks, I bought it 2 years ago and it still works great. I advise you to save up more and buy a better one.
Hi @Dukedog! Among Windows laptops, HP, Dell, and Microsoft Surface have good reputations. Apple MacBooks are more expensive and have a different operating system, though they're well-liked by many. I have a Dell Inspiron which is about three years old, and I haven't had any problems with it. It would be good to hear from other people too.
@Dukedog
Bought a refurbished laptop with touchscreen for about 110 Euros. Very happy with it. I guess (looking at chess coaches prices) some things are more expensive in the USA than in Europe.
My favorites would be Lenovo and Dell for laptop brand names.
Hello @Dukedog

I'd recommend checking several places for pricing first before going to pick something out, and as Aoza said, you'll probably need more than $300. Newegg.com is a good place to check. Try the Amazon, Dell, HP, etc websites too. I personally like the MSI brand. Are you looking for a web-surfer or a picture editor, because that will play into what kind you buy.

It took me 2ish minutes to find www.newegg.com/classic-black-msi-modern-14-c11m-068us-work-business/p/N82E16834156464?Item=N82E16834156464 which is a little over $400, but should suit most needs. Again, check prices, KNOW what you need for what you are doing! The laptop above will not work very well for picture/video editing or high graphics games, anything that is GPU intensive. If you just want one to play chess online ;) then $300 should be sufficient for that. www.newegg.com/aluminum-black-bmax-s13a-work-business/p/1XV-00F5-00001 I'm personally not fond of this one, but it is in budget and can access the internet so... One of my favorites is www.newegg.com/black-msi-gf-series-gf63-thin-11uc-263-gaming/p/N82E16834156091 but at $1000 is a little out of budget(for most people including me :) maybe one day)

There are a lot of brands, options, different specs/components, etc. Don't lose your mind over it. Hope this helps! If you have questions, just ask!

I thought you were joking, but I made inquiries and made sure that such laptops exist.
For example, like this:

14.1" Lenovo T460 (I think this is ThinkPad)
Intel Core i5-6200U (2.30 ГГц)
RAM 16 GB DDR4
SSD 480 GB
Bluetooth 4.0
Webcam 2.0 MPixl
Windows 10 Pro
PSU Lenovo x 1,bag Lenovo x 1, mouse Lenovo x 1

A gorgeous laptop, it cost 2000, now it has been reduced to just 300.
Looking at the processor, this is a model from around 2016. But for Internet surfing it is quite suitable.

Therefore, look there among such discounted computers.
Could try a Chromebook possibly, i just bought a touchscreen 360 flip one, new for £200.00, its obviously not high end , but perfect for basic things, You Tube, Chess, search, etc.. :).
