Great old times on FICS.

Actually the "community feel" was stronger there imo, probably because of the chat, the channels, and the geek-ish will to be part of a acommunity. And hell yes, belonging to a community is worth a lot. More so than playing chess.

Yes, things were nice on FICS for some time. I remember that I was TM (Tourney Manager) for a while, it was kind of fun to be able to create a tourney when a person would ask for it. And I heard that GM Aronian played bughouse there years ago.
