Bughouse is cool, but I rather give money to coach and improve myself, than give to lichess for one feature. Just my opinion.
I'm sure I read a reddit thread or maybe someone asked it in the q&a but the response was something like lichess was built around 1 board and implementing 2 would cause too many issues. I'll try find it for you.
P.S I'll donate a one off payment of $2.45 for LM title.

Actually I believe it was github I read it. I believe this to be a quote from Thibault -
"Please don't ask me for bughouse. Lichess is a game for one board and two players. Now, someone should totally build a new bughouse website/app. It's impossible to integrate into lichess because it's radically unlike chess, structurally speaking."
From this closed issue. github.com/ornicar/lila/issues/2939
Can't find the original with the quote sorry.

well it's exactly as I described in another thread. It structurally is possible, but the dev requirements are great, even more so than other variants. And it's about the demand-usage payoff once again.
Bughouse is not a closed case, it's just a difficult one, and one that won't be achieved if no one wants it.
