Variant idea: Anti-antichess.

In this version basically you’re trying NOT to lose your pieces. Capturing would NOT be compulsory, obviously. So basically the pieces would move the same way as in Antichess except, to make the game interesting, the King has a sort of “royal power”. So if your King is under attack you have to move it to safety immediately. If your king is under attack and you can’t move it to safety then you lose the game!

Any thoughts or suggestions?
This seems very familliar, I wonder why.
It sure seems weird that the king should have such a special place all of a sudden. Also, what happens when I promote to a king? Do I only need to protect one of my kings from then on?
Ah shame. Well, I don't know, this proposed variant of yours seems kinda slow and tedious.
I created a variant where you are forced to capture like in anti-chess but you try to win by checkmate like in regular chess.

Kings are still royal, so captures have to be legal within the rules of chess.

Obviously the fact you have to capture means a game might start e4(??) h5 Qxh5 (forced) Rxh5.
