Depends.

Rook vs 4 connected paws - i do believe the pawns win
Bishop plus 1 p vs 7 in diagonal pawns - bishop pawn wins
Knight loses almost always for more then 1 pawn (need to check this again)

Bishop in g1 blocked pawns in f2, g3 and h4 - poor bishop
Rook can get out
Knight maybe

And so on
If you wanted to say...
A rook is a cannon
A bishop is a sniper
A knight is....how to describe him?
Agree with depends on position.R or B can't give a smothered mate,B or N can't give a back rank mate.So really,it does depend on the position and the stage of the game.
Generally, the rank is as you typed it.
But specifically, the one that helps you to deliver mate is the strongest one. Sometimes even a pawn is.
