Monster Chess
Blacks set up is standard.
White has a King e1; four pawns c2, d2, e2, f2
Standard chess rules apply but for 1 major difference and a few minor ones.
Major: White is given 2 moves for every 1 move by Black.
The game is challenging for both sides, showing the power of being on the move.
The minor rule differences are the Black King can be captured by a pawn, King or piece (after promotion.) With two moves in hand by example, a white pawn can move 1. d6 to d7 2. d7xe8(the King and win). The White King can move through check to a non checking square with two moves in hand. To checkmate the White King, it often requires 3 majors. To checkmate the White King it must be in check and all squares covered after it's 2nd move. A case may arise where the King is not in check, tries moving 2 squares but all squares land in check. However, the King simply makes 1 move anywhere and returns to the original square, which is not check and the game continues with Black to move. Therefor a stalemate is not possible.
The White King is the Monster. Hard to mate and can capture Blacks King with 2 moves in hand by being 1 square removed from Blacks King. Games occur with White having lost his 4 pawns but wins as the White King gobbles up Black's pieces one at a time.
With best play Black should win, but is very difficult to prove. Games often end quickly with a White win.
Back in the early 80's, the skittles rooms played bughouse, monster chess and the occasional losers variants.
It is a really nice variants community there especially for promoting new variants in lichess such as bughouse or s-chess.
