Hello Lichess community.
I've been introduced recently to a new and interesting variant, which goes under the temporary title 'forwards chess' (although it's odds on that this variant has been independently conceived and differently titled at different times and in different places). I would like to play more games of it with various opponents, hence this post.
Firstly, the rules:
1) The piece movements are exactly as orthodox chess, except that:
2) All moves MUST take a piece forwards. (So yes, no castling, and yes, the rooks can't move out of their file)
3) The game is decided, as in orthochess, by checkmate, or agreement of a draw (which seems unlikely). Obviously, there can be no 50 move rule or repetition, because every move must go forwards, and:
4) Stalemate is a loss.
I think this covers everything you need to know, it's a very simple game, but with profound and confusing strategic and tactical considerations that confuse me at this point.
So, would anyone like to play me in this variant in correspondence? As the game contains no unorthodox move rules, it is playable in standard. All you need to do is resist the urge when checked to move sideways or backwards. Feel free to PM me if you'd like a game.
