But i have to say that Paul Morphy was on equal level in terms of talent and genius, but since i like Bobby Fischer as a person more, i'll go for him. Go Bobby, go!

Another way of putting it is that Nezhmetdinov may not have been the greatest defender (that was surely Petrosian), or even the best all-around player (probably Kasparov or Carlsen), but that he was fairly conclusively the strongest attacking player, and Tal himself would agree.
Tal actually once told a journalist after losing to Nezhmetdinov that it was “the happiest day of my life,” due to the incredible beauty of the game they had just played. Now that’s true sportsmanship, and true friendship.

@TheEighthRank Thank you for mentioning this! Chess greatness is relative due to the difference in competition, skill, computer, political support, opportunities for players, etc. The most modern players will always be the best due to increased resources and increased popularity of chess to thrive off of, so I'm glad we are on equal terms with this- 100% agree!

@kertandidi In terms of raw talent and ability, I would guess the best player of all time is about 12 years old and scary right now!
