insufficient material draw didn't work

I ended a game vs a Knight and the King only, running out of time at my side, and it gave me the game for lost. Shouldn't be a draw due to insufficient material of my opponent?
It wasn't knight and king only. Your opponent had knight and king, and you had pawns. Therefore, a checkmate is theoretically possible for your opponent. Lichess awards a win in that case.

And if you think "that would never happen", I have checkmated legitimately with only a knight remaining, in a real game.
It doesn't matter whether all of the other chess websites have a different rule. Lichess is 100% correct to do it this way.
