A new rating system where classical is split into rapid and standard/classical would be great.
Rapid: 8-30 minutes
Standard/Classical: More than 30 minutes.
There is a big difference between rapid and standard. In rapid you may be able to look at a position briefly, but in standard you can actually think about the position. Rapid is basically don't make blunders/let tactics be available, while in classical games are played much more positionally.
There are also people who are good at 45/45 or something similar, but don't want to lose their rating points playing 15/10 or similar games. With rapid, they wouldn't need to worry about that.
Although only 0.1% of games are 30 minutes+, that is only because more games can be played in the time of a single standard game.
Overall, we need to differentiate between players who are good at finding tactics quickly, rather than players who think well given a certain amount of time. Like the difference between blitz and rapid, there is a difference between rapid and classical/standard.
