Star Trek thread

#30
I don't remember episode names. On TOS I like the stories where Kirk and Spock are stuck Planetside and work together to brainstorm an escape. On TNG, stories where Data is interacting with Geordi or the Captain and he is learning what it means to be human or to have better relationships with humans. I also like Data's management/command style that is conscientious, gives clear expectations and is friendly.
Rachel8, TOS episode 'The City on the Edge of Forever' with guest star Joan Collins, never gets old. Her character, a social worker, has keen insights about Kirk and Spock who are undercover as down on their luck day laborers.
I want to get in to Star Trek after binging on some DS9 clips, but I don't want to have to watch Next Generation to understand the whole story because I hate Patrick Stewart (fantastic actor don't get me wrong, but I really hate him as a person)

If you're avoiding Picard, my recommendation is TOS (The Original Series) and the first two TOS movies. I personally did not watch the previous series to the current Picard one so I don't know about that one.

If you can eventually get past the Patrick Stewart factor, there is SO MUCH that happens in TNG: Borg, Q, other main characters have plenty of depth and unique qualities.

Good luck.

I recommend not watching the TOS movies until you are quite familiar with Spock's idiosyncrasies from the television series.
Morphyms1817, I remember City on the Edge of Forever – I can’t recall most episode names but that one stands out. It had a terrific story, good characterization, and Kirk and Spock working together planet-side as you mentioned. I loved the humor in the scene with Kirk, Spock and the police officer. Another cool episode I remember is the one with a pizza-rock-looking creature that Spock mind-melded with. Then there was an early show, a creepy one in which the Enterprise picks up a young teenager with powerful abilities. I think that was one in which 3D-chess appeared.

Among TNG episodes, I also liked the ones that featured Data. Actually, there were a lot of well-done episodes in TNG. The Borg episodes were great; also the one when Riker was in an officer-exchange program serving on a Klingon ship; another one when Riker, undercover, went missing while surveying a race on the verge of warp travel; another one when Dr. Crusher thought she was losing her mind when people start disappearing from her world. And one of my favorites was The Inner Light. These are just some off the top of my head!

TGBM95, I agree with the recommendations from morphyms1817.
Thanks for the video clip – The Trouble with Tribbles was hilarious!

Anyone out there like Voyager? When it first came out, I thought I wasn’t going to like it and avoided watching it for over ten years. I was also too busy to watch much TV. When my family started watching it, I decided to give it a try and ended up enjoying it! In my opinion it doesn’t have as many strong episodes as TOS or TNG, though it also doesn’t have as many duds as TNG has in its first two seasons or TOS in its last season.

I remember an excellent episode in which the Doctor finds himself reactivated several hundreds of years in the future in a museum which mistakenly is portraying the Voyager crew as evil. Another standout episode is the one when Seven’s nanoprobes assimilate the Doctor’s holo-emitter technology, somehow resulting in a new Borg drone. I also remember a well-done episode in which a guilt-ridden future-Harry, assisted by future-Chakotay, attempts through an illegal plan to correct an error he made in the past to save Voyager. Two episodes which had me laughing out loud were the one in which Seven takes dating lessons from the Doctor, and the one in which the Doctor programs himself the ability to daydream, giving us a glimpse into his ego-inflated fantasies.
Due to this lockdown, I have started watching the original series. Absolute genius storylines and over the top acting. A cinematic gem.
