You're math is wrong. There are 2 players per game, so the number of players playing = 2 x 18,776 = 37,552

You forgot to consider that the vast majority of games in play are between two human players, so you could say that in your screenshot there are approx 18,700 × 2 = 37,400 connected players playing a chess game.

This means roughly 85% of players are actually playing when connected.
