SHould I play blitz or rapid?

@AnonymousChessKing The time controls have little to do with preventing cheating and the focus should be on players using time controls that they prefer and/or that augment their learning if desired. Cheating concerns should not play a role in deciding what time control to play.

I would recommend that you start out with rapid (like 10+0 or 10+2) and then, once you master all the tactics and that 'strategic thinking' of the game, move on to faster blitz (5+0, 3+2, or 3+0) games.
Play what you enjoy. People put a lot of focus on getting better or reaching a certain rating. Ultimately none of it matters if you aren't enjoying yourself. I personally enjoy slower games so tend to play more rapid and classical than blitz. The only downside is that it's a bigger time commitment. It's disappointing if your opponent abandons the game when you are have put a lot of effort into a game.
