Of all eight pawns on each side of the board at the starting position, each has its own characteristics, and plays a unique part in determining the position. For example, the c pawn often works with the e pawn to create binds in the center, while the a pawn usually is usually used to prevent or interrupt pins on knights placed on c3 or c6. In the endgame they all kind of meld together, but this is about in the middle game. So my question is, of the eight pawn, which is your favorite and why?
My favorite is the b pawn, for its incredible versatility. For example, it can be used as a sacrifice in many openings to gain more control over the center. It can also be used to provide a strong space for your bishop to post such as in the polish or nimzo larsen. My favorite use of it though is in the caro kann, where when pushed to b4 controls the c5 square thus helping to further cramp black in the opening stages.
