This guy is lovely!

The @TheBYP has a huge number of videos. He's not a teacher per say, but plays through great games to show us how the best players played. Ive a lot to thank him for as his videos were fun and instructive and sparked my interest in playing and learning the most basic things in the game.

Having tried watching other channels, for a total novice, the games are played through and explained in a way that can easily be understood.

I knew nothing except how the pieces moved - so for both beginners and better players, theres a lot to be learned from watching the games he features. He's also a great person! If you want learning chess to be fun, I really recommend you watch his videos.
Quick google search says that the backyard professor is supposidly 1100-1200 rated according to someone who's been playing him. I'd go elsewhere for info.

"The BYP has a U.S.C.F. rating of around 800. He is a little bit underrated, but I wouldn't say he's any better than 1100, and he's certainly not qualified to teach anyone about how to improve at chess, although to his credit, I do admire his enthusiasm and love of the game."

@master_of_DARKNESS Hes not a coach or a trainer.. nor does he profess to be.. nor does he say at any time that he’s brilliant.. .. but what he does do is make it easy for beginners to understand how masters play. And his enthusiasm is almost unmatched..it’s dead easy to make disparaging remarks.. but nobody is forcing you to watch, so do feel free to get your information elsewhere..but don’t discourage others who may learn from his presentations or find him entertaining, to not watch.
@BorisOspasky No I think it's very important for people to know that the one you are recommended and/or listening to talk about chess, is A: Not a professor, B: Not a coach, C: Not that great a player, D: Actually a beginner and F: Entusiastic about chess, as if that means anything.

Theres too many people out there that so desperately want to "teach" others, but all they do is misguid people with all their stupid wrongthink.

So no, I feel a warning is very much in order.

If you wanna learn chess, go see this guy: www.youtube.com/c/ChessCoachAndras
@master_of_DARKNESS You are of course entitled to your opinion. If people want professional instruction then they are of course free to get some. There are a number of great content creators, each with their own style. I did go to some lengths to point out what the BYP is and isn’t and what he himself says about his own play. Magnus Carlson may be the best player in the world but that doesn’t mean to say he’d be the best teacher. Anyway, nobody is forcing you to watch him but at least let others make up their own mind. Have a nice day.
There are NOW so many ways of IMPROVING !! Andras seems a great way & I'm sure so many have improved their game through U Tube !! By The Way ... The Horowitz game was probably from the book The Golden Treasury Of Chess A RELIC but it can inspire heh'
I had great succes with the backyard professor videos. They increased my rating with 400-500 points. The wonderfull thing about his videos is that they aren't complex and even my familymembers who just know the chess rules and don't care much about chess say they enjoy to see his videos and the things he teaches make sense.

Of course there are some very strong teachers out there, but with comments like:
"that pawnmove is to weakening",
"terrible move"
"and white is better"
I always had something like: I don't see that!

Those videos of strong players are for strong players. You are expected to watch the videos with a rating of at least 1700. The backyard professor videos don't demand any rating from the viewers. He has videos on many GM games and explains the basic principals behind their moves. With his videos it was suddenly fun for me to study chess. In that way he was like the Harry Potter books, suddenly it was fun for me to read books.
