  3. World War two song don't know the name

https://youtu.be/34IeRgb_-CE?t=8m0s please if you know can you tell me what the song name is

Hi, I can't find the song name but it incorporates the civil war song "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" that was popular in WW2.

The cartoon at the start is "When GI Johnny Comes Home (Paramount 1945). The music up to the two bell chimes (7:54 - 8:03) is from the cartoon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PSVW9S0F6c

Best I can do I'm afraid.

By the way, Peoples' Century - superb documentary series! Every episode is top class.

I believe this is what you are looking for. It's not a song that was written as much as it was a collaboration over time. There are several versions listed in the Wiki. It also provides the original from 1898 if you feel so inclined.

It doesn't appear to be 'When Johnny Comes Marching Home' - the song uses the traditional song as a jumping off point, it's got new lyrics and an entirely innovative swing section.

I thought it could have been the Andrews Sisters version (1942?) but they used the traditional lyrics in their version.

It's a different, new song. Sadly the documentary doesn't provide credits for individual songs used. It could also be a splice together a swing version of WJCMH and a different song (the music on Peoples' Century, like everything else on the programme, was top quality - if it is a splice together it's incredibly well done).

Other thing to look at is the reference to 'Little Johnny Jones', a popular early 20th Century musical. I think Johnny Jones is also the name of Jimmy Cagney's character in Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942).

The song appears to be from another cartoon with sing along lyrics, if someone can locate that cartoon, that might help. Only problem is that a lot of these US war office films from WW2 tend to be uncredited.

You could also try contacting the BBC for whom the programme was made: they might be able to help from their records.

Doesn't appear to be on the Peoples Century soundtrack CD: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Peoples-Century-1900-1999/release/9420050

@shakey1982 Thank you so much for your help! That youtube link uses the same Animation so that is promising
