Why is the off-topic so dead?

The forums are dying because people keep deleting their posts. 😑
It only seems dead because the interesting threads are rapidly subsumed under a mobile quagmire of repetitive dross.
#dead because of? Maybe, there are some spam topics, like what do you like, etc, so they are...
@bunyip #13 I know what you mean.
For example:
How could something that started as a rhetorical joke about people posting words, without actually saying anything, somehow become a recurring thread topic?
Think it is on 38 by now?
So many good forumers like @slicingbishop2006 have left the forums because they got bored of the trolls on the forums. Then, this deletion feature has made it even worse because it doesn't seem implemented the right way, so people are deleting their posts left, right, and center. Look at this forum: 4 deleted posts???

On top of that, people pointlessly make repetitive topics, making the useful topics be less visible. All of a sudden, the forum becomes a boring wasteland of useless repeated topics.

bunyip is right.

@AthULith Also, forum games caused too much spam, hiding out the good topics. that's why a forum games team was made to move out the repetitive topics.
#18 I only been on this site since January 2020, and in the beginning I didn't use the forums.
So I might be mistaken.
But I did see an increase in post/spam when Lichess in April last year implemented the emoji reactions feature.

That and the global pandemic seem to be when the forums changed.

It started to become for people a kind of social network.
People started to want likes and positive confirmations from other people in their posts.
Which also explains why last summer, people started creating new topics and forum games.
