Because it is annoying. Less annoying and a better way would be advertising on your profile.

As i always said: Advertisers gonna advertise,haters gonna hate,spammers gonna spam.

There are so many users on Lichess.Many team leaders, imagine all of them create threads to advertise their teams.Then the forums will not be a place for any discussion which is the true reason it is meant for (having discussions).Also it would be abuse of infrastructure as there would be 1000+ threads of the kind created everyday.

Therefore it is said - to not advertise but rather have meaningful discussions.

What everyone else has said, plus most teams are mediocre and offer little to nothing new. Honestly, @a24batra - did you really need to create a team based on a fan club to yourself? How is that going to be different than any of your friend's teams, other than just having your name plastered on the top?

Advertising is really annoying, and it can really make people mad. Think it like this, do you like ads? They are always so pesky right? Well, advertising are really just ads for teams. Would you want to plaster lichess with ads? I hope not. No ads is what makes lichess a great chess site. When you think it like that you understand why you shouldn't.

perhaps a "mercenary corner" a forum subject only for teams to look for players
